Welcome to my Friday dribble where we talk things agri sport and life.
The dribble took last week off as we headed to QLD for a few days with the kids. We drove up the New England Highway and the country from around Tamworth to the border looked worse than I have ever seen before. They did get 20mms of rain last weekend but it only settled the dust.
The farmers currently have a very strong ally in everyone’s “favourite” shock jock… Alan Jones is spending most of his daily show talking about the drought. I agree with him on water. (if nothing else) We do need to be doing more to secure water via dams, diversion and bores.
2 weeks ago I mentioned Latitude Financial and its pending IPO. I thought it would be a bad IPO….Didn’t expect it to not IPO at all…I guess that shows how much spin was involved..!!
On other IPO’s I got to see some information this week about a company called Terragen. They have developed biological solutions to suit both soil health and animal health. Hard to sum it up in a paragraph but; Great land is a soil conditioner containing live microbes. Mylo is a probiotic feed supplement. And for the dairy industry Lactolin, an organic teat conditioner. It’s very early days but I am keen to find out more about the whole business.
Lastly on the drought and brewer Great Northern Brewing, part of CUB, owned by Asahi in Japan, is doing their bit by offer 1000 kegs of free beer throughout Australia at selected pubs from Oct 25th-27th. All proceeds will go to the drought relief fund administered by Rotary Aust. Lucky for me one of the pubs is the closest pub to where I live….How about that…!!!
On sport and the Wallabies get real test tomorrow with them playing the gezzers in Japan.
