Week Ending 28th June 2019
Welcome to my Friday dribble where a talk about things agri, food and sport.
The weather pattern has been virtually unchanged now for the past month. The agricultural regions have been a bit dry but we have been stuck with coastal rain here in Sydney that doesn't even make it to Penrith let alone the Blue Mountains.
I caught up with Tim Hart From Ridley on the phone this week. All is travelling well with the feed business and the prawn feed Novacq is going according to schedule, albeit possibly a bit slower than the market wants. The stock price has fallen from around the $1.40 mark back in Feb, to be under $1.20 earlier this week. A buying opportunity..?? I think so.
An announcement a couple of weeks ago from fish farmer Murray Cod Australia caught my eye. MCA have brought on board as a promoter and shareholder, chef Heston Blumenthal. A great announcement and potentially really good for sales of the slightly oily river fish.
Lots of talk in the press about an impending supply shortage of milk in Australia as farmers move out of dairy due to unsustainable returns. I have been reporting for a couple of years now about the falling milk pool, which by all accounts is getting close to 8BN litres and possible could fall below this level. There really is only one answer and that is farmers need to be paid more for milk at the farm gate or they will move to a different type of farming or sell up.
A great announcement this week from Bub's with an extension of their agreements in China to provide baby food in supermarkets over there. The market here liked the announcement and the stock put on over 20%.On sport we have had a cracker week or so with big wins by the girls in tennis, surfing and golf.
On top of this the aussie cricketers are back to their best it seems.
And finally, like everyone else I cant help myself, and have to make a comment about a certain rugby player. If Rugby is the game they play in heaven, then is a boy called Israel, a god, the devil or just going to hell..??
