Welcome to my Friday dribble where we talk things agri sport and life.

September already…yikes…Next thing Santa will be here..!!

It seems the weather pattern is stuck in neutral…. The frontal weather pattern is helping the south of the country but pretty much nowhere else. Hopefully they get good crops in that region. I hear places like Walcha through to Glen Innes are almost out of water.

We caught up with the team from Bega Cheese this week, minus Barry. Get well soon Barry. They were saying the Australian milk pool is now below 9BN litres and that Queensland now doesn’t produce enough of its own milk to supply their own state’s domestic demand. There is milk being trucked from northern Victoria to satisfy Qld demand..!!

On corporate activity with BGA, now they have bedded down Koroit, what next..?? The industry is going through some major structural change. Lion Dairy and Drinks want out but there are no buyers. Fonterra are struggling big time, are clearly not happy being in Australia and have big problems over the ditch. Also in Tassie, Saputo want the Lion King Island cheese assets but may need to sell one plant down there to satisfy the ACCC.

Also this week we saw Martin Ward from APE and last week we caught up with Nick Pagent from ASG. Both groups have adjusted really quickly to lower new car sales volumes. It has already been reflected in their respective share prices.

One hugely interesting point Nick made about the European car makers. For example, Audi back in 2006 didn’t have an SUV in the Aussie market. Now SUV’s are over 50% of their sales in this country. Most of them are in Double Bay..!!

I heard this week that on a couple of occasion’s electricity pricing in QLD went negative due to the high level of solar electricity being generated. On the surface this should be great, right..?? Power prices should fall..? Unfortunately the problem is it doesn’t work all day and night so something else needs to be on standby and that is expensive.

Still on power and I couldn’t resist adding the photo below. Only in South Australia could this happen. An electric car charging station powered by a diesel generator….Outstanding stuff..!!
