Welcome to my Friday dribble where we talk things agri sport and life.
I have seen a couple of the recent updates from chook producer Inghams and it seems pretty tough out there in chookland. The drought has pushed up grain prices to fowl levels and it’s hard from them to hatch some cost savings.
Another agri having problems is blueberry farmer Costa Group. CGC went into a trading halt back on Monday and as we go to press today they still haven’t updated the market. Not good. One newspaper was suggesting a downgrade and a capital raising.
We drove past there new tomato sheds near Guyra the other day and water is definitely an issue.
I mentioned a failed bigger cap IPO the other day and it seems it isn’t the only one to not get up. There are shelved plans now for a couple of others as well which just goes to show how much spin is involved it these types of deals. All spin and no substance..!!
The crazy tribe from over the ditch are doing some weird stuff. NZ bee keepers are up in arms because we use the word Manuka for our honeys as well. They want to take us to court to stop us…..Only hiccup in their argument is that Manuka honey comes from the Leptospermum trees which are native to both countries…Ooops.
And the NZ PM has announced some emission trading rules for the country, but the farmers are exempt… How does that work.?? The biggest emissions in NZ come from their 4.8 million cows farting too much..??
