Week Ending 12th May 2019

For the record the views expressed in this column are personal.Welcome to my Friday dribble where a talk about things agri, food and sport.

I don't think the weather pattern has changed at all in the past week. Here in Sydney we are experiencing beautiful days and cool nights, but no rain in sight.

It's a similar story in the bush with no rain in the northern portion of NSW. The southern part and most of Vic seem to be doing ok.

As most of you know I am good friends with team Bega Cheese. A quick shout to Executive Chairman Barry Irvin who is undergoing chemo at present for some pesky cancer they found. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

Not a lot of company specific news out lately in agland as we prepare for reporting season, but there is some industry news. The government are looking to help more farmers with drought assistance and the state govt are talking about building more dams. I wont hold my breathe waiting for any new dams to be built, there is usually some small endangered frog that gets in the way...!!

On the Murray Darling river the drama continues and there is no answer in sight...4 different states all have a say and the one with the least inflows wants the biggest allocation...??? Hard to comprehend were this debate ends but the only real solution is rain.

On car stocks it looks likely that APE will be able to takeover AHG after the ACCC asked and got a small divestment out of APE. Super salesman Martin Ward and his team have done a superb job and they just need to sell the trucking business out of AHG to make the deal an even bigger winner.

On sport and the Aussie cricket team are getting set up for the Ashes series in the UK. No doubt it will be tough and the pitches will be doctored....OOOPS did I say that out loud..??
