Welcome to my Friday dribble where we talk things agri sport and life.
The end of September already….And school holidays AGAIN….!!
Still not much rain about in NSW or QLD. Victoria looks better, which should provide some crops and hay. Saw a good map this week showing long term trends in the rainfall patterns of this country over the past few years. It looks like we are now experiencing a worse drought than in 1964-65. Thanks to Alister from Duxton Water for the preso.
The ultimate outcome of the drought seems to be that the dams in the upper reaches of the major rivers are being drawn down a lot earlier than normal, which means no storage for next year.
Still all is not lost. All the old codgers in the bush will swear that with Lake Eyre full we should have a wet summer in NSW.
As mentioned last week CLV brought out their results last Friday. We have been catching up with CEO Peter Davey on a regular basis since he was appointed to the role 5 years ago. Back then he had one supply of fish oil and 2 customers. One of which had just had a contamination scare.
Since then he has expanded the business progressively and proactively. He now has over 10 sources of oil and over 200 customers worldwide. He has done an exceptional job with the business and it keeps growing. There is a major push by health authorities worldwide to include DHA in many products, not just infant formula.
On sport its footy finals time, the rugby world cup and then the Bathurst car race. Strap yourself into your favourite arm chair and hold on tight..!!
From the aviation files I read a great article this week showing us where airlines have got to in charging customers. The biggest money maker in the US now is baggage fees. Combined the major US airlines charged US$2.2BN in baggage fees for the June qtr. The big 3 airlines charge between $37-44 for the first checked bag and more for the second…..Moral of the story?? Travel light..!!
