Week Ending 21st June 2019

Welcome to my Friday email where I talk about all things stock market, agri and life.

Is it time to ring the bell on the market here..?? I asked that question last week and now the market has had 4 up days in a row..... Yikes... It seems to be driven by talk of further rate cuts here and the US.

The weather pattern seems a little bland at present and that's not positive for farmers. The country in Victoria should look good given the amount of rain there in the past month or so, but NSW is still struggling and now its way to cold to grow grass.

The weather certainly hasn't negatively affected the lamb market. One farmer from the Albury region of NSW sold 40 lambs this week at $350.00 a head. I believe they will end up in China. At that price there wont be many off cuts..!! Staggering stuff. I remember the dry pinch back in 1992 we sold older sheep @ 20c a head with the buyer saying "I'm doing you a favour"..!!

Still on China and the pig market looks set for a major shakeup. My sources tell me that African Swine Flu has decimated the Chinese pig industry with 20-30% of the pigs having to be slaughtered. Nothing to squeal about but hopefully our industry could be the winner. The only hiccup here is the high grain prices, which is curbing growth

Saw a couple of interesting posts on the ever reliable Facebook this week sticking it up that group PETA. All very important stuff to discredit this organisation as they seem to be interested in only spreading untruths. I thought peta stood for Please Eat Tasty Animals, but apparently that's not correct...!!!

On sport and this weekend the State of Origin heads to Perth of all places for a game on a weekend. So I guess its really "out of state origin"....
